The only thing I can recall doing is changing the field of view by 2. Then, after leaving settings (this was the first time opening the game) I got a black screen. Now, after reinstalling, rebooting and pressing random buttons I’ve been unable to get anything visible in game but my cursor. I open the game in no-vr mode, but all modes have black screen. The game seems to react to clicks somehow, and I can get to shooting stuff with noises, but it’s a dull experience without a sight on what’s happening. Hopefully this isn’t intended 😀

And hopefully you’ll find what’s wrong even though I have very little to help you with.

Oh, very interesting. I found the settings by moving with arrow keys and managed to do something that brought the view back. I’ll try to figure out what was causing it, but first I’ll have to play throught everything : D

Same problem. Loaded up the first time, went into settings, changed a couple of really boring things, went “back”. and the screen was black. Now it’s black every time I launch it, though I can move the cursor around with keys and hear the audio feedback. I’d love to know how to just delete the settings or whatever to start over but everything is hidden everywhere as usual. Anyone know where the settings are stored?

    Yep!

    C:\Users\your_username_here\AppData\LocalLow\Revival\Overload

The file you’re looking for is yourpilotname.xprefs

Failing that, you can also go here in the Registry: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Revival\Overload

I’m running into the same problem, but Linux here (Ubuntu 16.04).

I just opened the options menu for graphic stuff, didn’t change anything just looking, clicked “back” and the screen was gone. I’ve already reinstalled the game and restarted the PC, but this doesn’t helped.

On Linux there is no Registry where I could delete settings.
I’ve even have any local *.xprefs files nor any directory called Revival or Overload..

There shouldn’t be any generally issues with my system, because I was successfully able to start and play the Overload Playable Teaser 2.0.

Even with a black screen I can hear the music, I can start a game and can hear the shooting sounds. There is simply a black screen.

Where is the hidden settings file? :/

The way I got it working is I used arrow keys to get to the settings with the black screen and did random stuff. It worked when I left the settings.

I tried this as well but with no success.
My idea is to switch into windowed mode, but totally blind I didn’t find it (or this doesn’t work either).

I’m still able to start and play the Teaser but not the early access version. :/
In the teaser version I have to
    – press 3x down to enter options
    – 1x down to enter graphics
    – 2x down to reach fullscreen/windowed mode then
    – left or right to change it.

But this doesn’t seem to work in the early access version.

Oh it’s 3x to reach fullscreen/windowed mode now. 2x down now is the brightness control.

On a Mac, same problem, with a caveat. I never actually got to play the game. On initial load, I went into options to check on keyboard config; but, was not able to set/reset anything. No submenu ever opened. On the graphics menu, same thing. Unable to modify anything. For shits and giggles, I selected apply changes (remember, no changes were made). The game promptly hung, and I had to reboot to clear it. Now, with every launch, I get 1) a black screen; 2) a mottled screen; 3) my desktop background minus icons. I went so far as to uninstall/reinstall (via steam of course). No joy. So, it seems uninstall may be leaving files. The bootstrap log file shows a ton of “missing/incomplete” errors on files during the initial update (part of install). Not sure if this has anything to do with the overall problem (no reconfig). File list follows. Will update if I can figure out the prefs config files on this OS.

Heh, I’m having this exact problem currently. Using the hint from above, my screen changed from black to a pulsating green one instead. 😛

Edit: Changing to Windowed-mode fixed it.

You can just blindly toggle Windowed and Full Screen in the Graphics Options menu. Or, if you wish to avoid having to do that, then you can also edit your “.xprefs” file to toggle between Full Screen and Windowed. Here’s how:

    1. Open the LocalLow AppData folder: C:\Users\Your_User_Name_Here\AppData\LocalLow\Revival\Overload
    2. Open the “.xprefs” file for your pilot using Notepad as your editor. So, “PILOTNAME.xprefs” If you never made a pilot and you’re just using the Default pilot, then it’s “default.xprefs”
    3. Perform a Ctrl+F search for “fullscreen”
    4. Windowed Mode is “O_FULLSCREEN:F” and Full Screen is “O_FULLSCREEN:T” (I know windowed is “F” and that’s confusing, but I assure you I’m 100% sure I didn’t reverse these and get them mixed up with each other)

So, to switch your display mode here, just change the ‘T’ or ‘F’, save, and launch Overload.

    Prepare for Overload…

    elthas, dakoolaidkid, & Caustic:

If you’re still have problems getting Overload to run, of if you’re able to duplicate your earlier problems, please contact me directly at mtoschlog@revivalprod.com. We’re working on tracking down these “black screen” issues.

One question I have for anyone with this problem is: Are you running the Early Access release and have you previously run the original (March 2016) Playable Teaser? I think there might be a registry variable conflict between those two versions.

Also helpful would be knowing exactly what you did to fix the problem. We may want to change the defaults or add some notes to the readme to help others with the same issue.

    Thanks,

    – Matt
