Sorry I have been away, it is not easy for me to get back involved into a community.

Anywho, I pretty much promised myself I would not do another kickstarter… I remember how much all of us were strained and all the crazy things I did… I just found out that John Romero is starting a kickstarter this morning. I sent him a tweet about Overload while we were campaigning — and he liked it. I thought that the least I could do is bring Blackroom to everyone’s attention…

I spent way too much on Overload (it was worth it), but, I intend to give them what I can and try not to get too involved.

I probably can’t afford to back a second project, and between the two Overload’s the one I want to see more. No regrets. 🙂
Anyway, it’s John Romero. I can’t see him having any problems getting the money to build an FPS game. While I was watching the four-minute video the amount pledged went up nearly $500. 😛
You know, I still haven’t tried that Doom map he released. Probably should.

Maybe I’ll use my alter ego to let all those Doom purist trolls on youtube know. 😀

Wait, two Overloads? Did I miss something?

You are probably right about Blackroom, though the kickstarter just started. I just thought it was worth mentioning.

Looks like Kickstarter is all the rage now, which is a good thing as publishers seem to hold IP hostage from the original creators and don’t dole out the proper compensation to the creators (like Prince’s crusade against traditional music publishing.)

Blackroom with John Romero and Adrian Carmack. I’ve read they are using the Unreal 4 engine like DU is. Funny that there’s a John and a Carmack, but no John Carmack! Though John Carmack and Palmer Luckey got on Kickstarter as well with Oculus. Even Ultima Underworld is making a come back on Kickstarter http://www.polygon.com/2015/2/4/7982569/ultima-underworld-is-making-a-big-comeback

Maybe Mike and Matt could make a video like this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sbDQSOmwA20
(I’m thinking that this video was inspired by the end of the Star Wars Force Awakens movie with Romero in place of Skywalker.)
Instead of a keyboard/mouse he’s handing over, it could be a keyboard/joystick. Perhaps they could meet down an old abandoned mine after one of them landing at some remote airport!

    Two Overloads? No.
Was saying if I had to pick between supporting Blackroom and Overload I’d still choose Overload, with no question and very little thinking time required.

At the end of the Overload kickstarter, it seemed like people felt the opposite — although, Overload was my first kickstarter (thus, I have no idea). I do like that creators can get away from publishers, though.

Ahh, I understand. I would too, to be honest… I think as far as FPS goes, I want something that reminds me of classic Quake; even still, Overload takes the cake.

Looks like they are pausing the kickstarter to put out a demo first. I’m surprised they didn’t have a demo to start with. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/nightworkgames/blackroom-a-new-fps-from-romero-and-carmack/description

    I suppose a Doom level wasn’t enough https://mobile.twitter.com/romero/status/725032002244759552

I think that was a good idea. Did not know that he made another Doom level =)
