I was just reading about the Ansel software with the new Nvidia 1070/1080 GPUs
“Unlike typical screenshot tools, Ansel hooks directly into the game engine—developer permitting—allowing users to free-roam around a specific scene, rotating the image, cropping it, and applying filters. Even better, because the tool ties directly into the frame buffer, users can take screenshots at resolutions higher than their monitor, up to a Photoshop-busting 61,000 pixels wide. There’s even a mode to take 360-degree screenshots for viewing in VR headsets like the HTC Vive, or via the Nvidia Android app and a Google Cardboard. Games supporting Ansel at launch include The Division, The Witcher 3, and No Man’s Sky.”
Perhaps Overload could be a added to the list!
I was watching Nvidia’s YouTube video as well (published today, says part 1, not sure if part 2 is released yet)
360deg stereoscopic screenshots, now that’s what I’m talkin’ about!
Maybe some day in the future we’d be taking ‘voxel screenshots’ allowing you not only to look all around, but to move around somewhat as well.May 8, 2016 at 5:17 pm #7529d3jakeKickstarter BackerTopics: 3
Sounds neat. It sounds like a feature that would be secondary to the rest of the game. That said, this could be recreated by the demo-recording system. You would just need to record back 10-15s to ensure you capture the beginnings of the special effects. From there, you can move around the scene, without fancy tie ins, or an extra file format.May 8, 2016 at 6:59 pm #7531hypersonicKickstarter BackerTopics: 18
Granted there would be no need for the free camera system if the demo recording system was adopted https://playoverload.com/forums/topic/demo-recordings/
However the 360deg stereoscopic screenshots would be a nice feature. Eventually 360deg photos will be on many websites just like flat photographs are now. Too bad not everyone has 3D capable displays so that even flat photographs can have some depth. 360deg photos can lack depth as well without 3D.
