Purple Portals in Alien Levels

What is the purpose of the purple portals in the alien levels?? Teleporting from one side of the room to the other does not seem very useful!

It’s quite possible I am missing something obvious here, because I am struggling with the alien levels. No problem with the levels set in our solar system!

They can be very useful, especially at the beginning of level 14 (or in any room that’s set up in a similar way). Save right before you go into the room and try a bunch of different ways of losing and confusing the bots.

You don’t *have* to use them, of course. They are quite fun though. You can just keep using them to keep crossing the room over and over and over. lol The bots follow you over to the portal, you go through, and then the next thing they know, you’re behind them on the other side of the room.

The second alien level actually has a puzzle that forces you to use the portals.
