specifically, I think the D2 cinematic pyro looks less like a combat ship and more like a sporting craft. The D1 in-game model (represented in the thingiverse link) looks like a combat ship to me.
March 7, 2016 at 11:38 pm #2431Funny kind of sporting craft with that many guns on it. Pretty sure they’re actually exactly the same model.
March 8, 2016 at 3:04 am #2443The low-res version (although that photo doesn’t show it off clearly) might have had a thicker fuselage. I’m not sure though. If it were derived from the cinematic model, rather than the cinematic model being built subsequently, there might not be much difference.
March 8, 2016 at 8:35 am #2476To the best of my knowledge the only difference between the in game models for D1 and D2 was the addition of two headlights in the nose. Otherwise they are identical.
There are times you strive for greatness, to reach lofty goals and accomplish noble deeds. Then there’s the rest of the times you just want to blow stuff up.

In-game, possibly. The cinematic model in D2 is very curvy, though. Doesn’t look like it’s meant for combat.
March 12, 2016 at 7:50 am #3064D1 & D2 have the same Pyro model actually only in D2 After Burners were applied and a Prototype of the Warp Drive so it could solely jump from system to system.

March 16, 2016 at 7:49 am #3594The D2 model is just better detailed also obvious D2 is from 1996 D1 from 1994, D2 has in it’s whole more details as well.
MetalBeast’s Pyro-GX is a master piece this one was also used for the 1500 Polygon Pyro-GX for D3’s mod Pyromania 1.5 🙂
Which is this one:

March 16, 2016 at 1:25 pm #3676Why? I’m curious as to how something looks more “sport” or “combat”-like to you.
March 16, 2016 at 5:17 pm #3699Must be the racing stripes.

March 17, 2016 at 4:00 pm #3824I always loved Bubbalou’s hi-poly Pyro-GX. Hell, that model even made it into my D3 game, IIRC.

You can download an STL file from Thingiverse I believe this is based on Metalbeast’s design.

March 17, 2016 at 10:12 pm #3857I’ve always dreamed about remakes of the Descent cinematics… At least the Opening/Closing of D2.
