MP levels are relatively simple, but SP levels probably never. D3 levels are made up of a series of rooms, each with their own set of geometry. It would be a lot of work, and some D3 levels are huge.February 8, 2019 at 5:26 pm in reply to: Has Mike Kulas left Revival for Volition? What is the future for Revival? #19099
I mean, it was pretty obvious from day one to be honest that Overload was never going to make a huge impact on the gaming community. It was always a niche following, and to be honest I think the name ‘Overload’ was a poor choice, as to this day you cannot just type Overload in Google and get any relevant results without adding more details such as PC, Game etc. Either way we got a great game, and it will NOT go unnoticed as people are chattering about it. It’s very highly rated and is bound to go down in the hall of fame as an underappreciated gem.
A rear view in the cockpit is not possible (or practical) in Unity, so I’ve heard.January 30, 2019 at 5:37 pm in reply to: Has Mike Kulas left Revival for Volition? What is the future for Revival? #19081
I am sure there are still possibilities for Revival – although I’m not sure if sales figures have been released or not, so it’s hard to say what the future holds for the company. I mean, Revival is and always was more of a passion project than one driven by profit, but naturally bills and staff need to be paid to continue with it.
AFAIK multiplayer upgrades are unlikely, unless they decided to release the source at some point and allow the community to work on it.
That’s pretty awesome. How many polys is the model? I know some folks over at HLP that would love to have this.
With regards to D3 on Linux, for me the GOG installer runs perfectly under WINE. The GOG version has been updated (*customized 1.4 patch and a few other tweaks) so that it should run without any problems. I couldn’t get the CD version to work at all. Simply place the installer in the WINE drive. PlayOnLinux is probably best avoided, I couldn’t get it to setup properly with that.
I config WINE to run in a Window, so that D3 too sits in a box and doesn’t mess with the desktop layout. I use OpenGL most of the time as that seems to cooperate with Wine better than the others and I set my command line to use the same resolution as the wine window.
What you want is in the cargobay 2 area, you just have to get there first.
Where are you stuck?
(Did you destroy the crashed ship for the master key?)
There’s none in the cargo areas. Look for discreet powerups and crates for energy (turrets drop them too)
And now you’ll be able to play those D3 mods properly.. assuming you’ve got it setup right 🙂
Just turn everything off. That’s what I do, and my system is kinda mid-range (underpowered GPU but good spec). The game still looks passable but all I care about is performance, not shine and fancy graphics. Btw the integrated card is the real bottleneck, as with my underpowered GPU, at some point you can add a mid-range video card and you’ll receive a noticeable improvement. For now, if at the lowest resolution with everything turned off still doesn’t work, you should grab a cheap GPU at least.
Your point about D1 and D2 is fine and all but those games didn’t require hardware rendering, and you’re forgetting about D3 which for the time was *really* sluggish unless you had a top of the line system and vid card. Heck, I wasn’t able to play D3 in full quality until about 2003. I even have a laptop from 2008 that can barely run D3 on low settings, simply because it’s using integrated graphics.
OK, update applied. Simply DL the level again.
Thanks! I’m going to be patching this shortly as it turned out a little darker than I realized. Expect an update soon..
The level is now available!
Grab it at Descent 3 Sector: https://sectorgame.com/d3/downloads/?nav=display&file=880
Or at MODDB: https://www.moddb.com/mods/omens
Fair warning: You may need up to 2 hours to play through the entire level, if you want to find everything! Savegames do *not* work.
Currently this level only works with the GOG version of D3. I will work on a fix.
Edit: Crash should be fixed now on CD versions. Simply DL the level again.
Just noticed a part of your post dealing with your reactor defenses – I’d recommend static enemies or unshielded fabricators at wost. IMO shielded fabricators should come a ways into the mission, even after defense turrets. Unshielded fabric softeners are fine much earlier into the mission.
Remember folks, always go with unshielded when using your fabric softener. 😀
That’s what they all say.
