    Hello. I did create both the realtime and cinematic models of the Pyro. I probably have the model files archived somewhere, I’ll have a look and see if we can release some renders in the near future.

    I would also like an update, I’ve tried messaging Adam both via this forum and by email, he hasn’t responded, so I’d say he either can’t find the files or is too busy to look for them.

    Bit of a shame, but oh well.

    That’s pretty awesome. How many polys is the model? I know some folks over at HLP that would love to have this.

    The original model is 39,670 polys

    I’d love to hand it over to the the HLP crowd, however the model still belongs to Daniel Mcmillan, hence why I had to pay for it.

    I might face some legal trouble if I just released it free on HLP.
    I suppose I could ask him, he’d probably want some compensation from the community though.

    Is it ever mentioned when Descent actually takes place? I remember scouring the briefings looking for a date but never finding one.

    Its possible the aliens encountered are just members of a larger group. Perhaps they infected the robots in Descent with a virus as some kind of revenge.

    How about boss robots?

    These are a little tricky to match:
    Goliath = D3 Merc final boss
    Taurus = D2 lvl 20 boss
    Starluster = D3 Merc lvl 4 boss

    I had the same issue, I posted a thread here https://playoverload.com/forums/topic/doors-not-opening-on-tethys-lab/

    As I understand, they’re aware of the issue and are on the case.

    To get around the bug for now, save and load outside any doors that do not open (I also had to do this on the final level)

    Nice review, but I’ll have to disagree on some points

    I actually like the upgrade system, and I like the variety of weapons, sure the Crusher and flak occupy a similar role, but their still different enough for me to switch between them. In fact, I wish we had even MORE weapons.

    I also enjoyed the audio logs, they provided a nice break from the fast paced action of the missions. One of the things I like about Descent 3 was the more expansive briefings between missions.

    I do agree Descent had a more distinctive art style (particularly Descent 2) though I don’t really see it as grimy. Maybe that’s because I mostly play rebirth, which gets rid of the artifacting. Part of the reason is the fact they are using Unity instead of their own engine.

    Hey Pyro,

    Thanks for the report. We figured out the bug this morning, and a workaround for it. Save/load next to the locked down and it should be open again. Should be fixed in the next patch.

    Thats a great vid series, hope Firesteel ends up finishing it.

    FS open is truly one of the greatest things that exists, I’d love for some of the old devs to play it

    Was the point of the eerie level “Original Zero” that the virus actually came from hell?

    There is this kind of spooky pentagram and that’s how the level ends? It seemed like a big allusion to the idea that the “alien” virus actually came from a dimension of evil.

    If I remember correctly, the virus was created by some insect-like aliens that were destroyed in level 4 of the Descent 3 Mercenary expansion pack (3rd favorite D3 level).

    Origin Zero kinda seemed like a fun tangential story section that was not fully developed.

    I’d say you probably won’t get much of a response till the game’s finished, given that this is probably a lower priority.

    Believe me I’m also eager to get my hands on the Pyro model.

    Interplay is selling the Freespace and Descent IP right now!!! This is a massive opportunity for Revival to lock up an IP for their next game. Don’t let it pass by!

    I believe (though I could be wrong) that Interplay is selling their IP as a bundle, not separately, so it’d be unlikely revival productions would be unable to purchase the descent+fs ip’s at any reasonable price.

    Descent 3 has long been considered the most polarizing of the Descent series;
    It tried to be both new and fresh while maintaining the same feel of the originals, but it didn’t quite succeed.

    It also tried to have a grand cinematic story going on in the background, there again, it only half-succeeded

    I really liked Descent 3, but I embrace it as a different game to it’s predecessors

    Though one thing I hated about it: NO PYRO-GX! 🙁
